Cooper Tire's state-of-the-art Mold Operations facility, located in Tall Timbers industrial park in Findlay, OH, is currently seeking a passionate Design Engineer to join our team.  Our team focuses on designing and supporting tire molding and related equipment at Cooper’s network of manufacturing facilities.  The design engineers on our team are responsible for creating 3D virtual CAD models of parts utilized during the tire manufacturing process, as well as running short and long term projects based upon engineering new molding and equipment technology.  Through these projects, our design engineers collaborate heavily with plant, part production, and research and development stakeholders to ensure success at all levels.  Initially, the candidate will receive training and be provided with a mentor to fulfill the job duties required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Utilizes 3D parametric solid modeling software to create CAD models, engineering drawings, and electronic vendor outputs of tire molding equipment used during the manufacturing of tires.
  • Provides engineering support to vendors and quality department during the design and manufacture of tire molding components and equipment.
  • Investigates innovative modeling techniques and software automation to improve design processes for speed and quality.
  • Generates ideas to fill pipeline of innovations to make for tire molding components and equipment.
  • Defines project plans including learning opportunities, scoping, resources and time; plans may include multi-phased approach to progress new technology design projects from conception to successful implementation.
  • Provides thoughtful and prompt customer service to internal plant customers using our components.
  • Organizes, leads, documents, and presents projects to cross-functional teams across the company.
  • Works within the guidelines of applicable policies and procedures, ISO standards, specifications, and compliance.
  • Generates, manages, and analyzes data related to mold and equipment performance.
  • Uses data to drive development of mold and equipment best-practices through determination of conceptual model interactions.
  • Available for infrequent travel to support tire molding components and equipment at the plant level (<10%/year).
  • Flexible work hours available with core hours required.
  • Paid overtime as needed to complete projects.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) OR minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing problem solving role(s).
  • Proficiency with PTC Creo Parametric 3D modeling software, or related (SolidWorks, Siemens NX, CATIA, Autodesk Inventor, etc.)
  • Experience with performing Finite Element Analysis (PTC Creo Simulate, Abaqus, Ansys, etc.)
  • Strong background in project management
  • Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate, and problem solve effectively.
  • Basic programming ability
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook).
  • Strong proven ability to document technical results and methods in the form of reports and presentations
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple way

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Green Belt or Black Belt Certification
  • PTC Windchill or related Product Lifecycle Management experience preferred
  • Power Bi experience preferred
  • Data Analytics experience
  • Experience with Materials Science Engineering
  • Experience in developing programs for automation in CATIA
