The Health and Safety Manager at the Findlay Tire Manufacturing operation will have responsibilities for the operation and campus and will lead the design and implementation of systems, programs, and processes to ensure compliance with regulatory and company requirements and minimize and eliminate risks.


Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide managerial support and subject matter expertise that ensures appropriate Health Safety & Security (HS&S) systems and resources are in place.
  • Work within a matrix organization, having a direct reporting relationship to the Plant Director and a dotted line reporting relationship to the Regional Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Director
  • Advise facility management on HS&S matters.
  • Create HS&S plans to ensure conformance with regulatory and company requirements.
  • Through education and training and a “roll-up the sleeves” approach, drive the understanding and implementation of the company HS&S management system.
  • Coordinate company and agency (OSHA) reporting and documentation
  • Coordinate emergency response programs reporting, and training for the plant.
  • Coordinate and/or conduct plant health and safety training. Conduct and/or participate in plant audits to ensure compliance. Follow-up on corrective action as necessary to maintain compliance.
  • Direct and monitor health and safety consultants and contractors as may be required.
  • Represent company and plant at state manufacturer association health and safety committee meetings, state agency public hearings, and other state and local stakeholder meetings as may be appropriate.
  • Maintain good working knowledge of all plant operations and systems.
  • Support Regional EHS program efforts, needs, assessments, audits, training.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience OR 10 years of experience without a degree
  • Strong familiarity, understanding and experience in EH&S management systems and their successful implementation.
  • Heavy manufacturing health and safety experience including machine guarding, LOTO, ergonomic and industrial hygiene experience
  • Experience to include working in diverse heavy manufacturing and distribution environments.
  • Must have strong substantive knowledge of regulations and guidance promulgated by Federal and State requirements and H&S management systems.
  • Must be a self-starter, self-directed and able to work independently. Must be a “people” person and be able to develop relationships at all levels of the organization
  • Union experience
  • Physical security experience
  • Must have sound judgment, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills and not be afraid of rolling up the sleeves to develop and deliver practical solutions.
  • Must be able to clearly and succinctly communicate, market and sell practical EHS&S solutions to all levels of company/business/and facility personnel.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communications skills, strong organizational and time-management skills and the demonstrated ability to prioritize
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, EHS Data Management Systems
  • Must be flexible and creative in developing solutions that deliver results.
