The function of this position is to maintain existing tire testing equipment and develop new equipment for tests that enhance the ability to accurately measure tire performance characteristics. This includes the ongoing evaluation of present and future equipment, procedures and technology that affect testing operations, including safety, ergonomics, machine capability, and machine repeatability. This position works closely with the Test Development Engineer to implement new test methods.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, the duties of this position include:

  • Understanding of all department safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, MSDS system, and emergency action plans.
  • Understanding of department quality systems, including Quality Policy Statement, Quality Manual and all relevant work instructions.
  • Operating in a manner that reinforces, supports, and is consistent with the Cooper Philosophy and Beliefs and the Technical Values statements.
  • Participates in training opportunities that will help to develop their work and management skills and to maintain awareness of company and industry trends.
  • Coordinates maintenance of existing equipment. Reduces downtime and assures data quality through equipment modifications and preventive maintenance.
  • Develops new equipment, and modifies existing equipment, for enhanced capability, improved safety, improved efficiency and improved data quality.
  • Develops and implements computerized data acquisition, analysis, and reporting systems.
  • Coordinates the fabrication and installation of new equipment with Equipment Development, outside vendors/contractors and factory maintenance.
  • Assures and adequate inventory of spare parts to provide quick replacement and minimize downtime.
  • Maintains all documentation related to equipment, including drawings, manuals and maintenance and calibration procedures.
  • Supervises the activities for technicians, co-ops or engineers-in-training during specific test/equipment development programs. Responsible for reviews and performance evaluations required during these programs.
  • Participates in relevant industry and professional organizations (SAE, ASTM, etc.)
  • Works closely with internal customers to determine future testing needs.
  • Leads and participates on internal and external teams.
  • Participates in opportunities to promote Tire Testing, Technical and Cooper Tire within the industry, to our customers and to the general public.
  • Develops and implements department policies and procedures.
  • Interacts routinely with internal and external customers and business contacts.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors of Science in Engineering, Mechanical Engineering preferred.
  • Green Belt preferred.
