The function of this position is to assure expert test services including data collection, test coordination, and review of testing systems.  Responsible for calibration and maintenance of testing equipment. Acts as a mentor for new laboratory personnel. Proficiency will be accomplished through on-the-job training, formal training, and planned job rotation.


Job Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, the duties of this position include:

  • Understanding of all department safety procedures, including lockout/tagout, MSDS system, and emergency action plans.
  • Understanding of department quality systems, including Quality Policy Statement, Quality Manual and all relevant work instructions.
  • Operating in a manner that reinforces, supports, and is consistent with the Cooper Philosophy and Beliefs and the Technical Values statements.
  • Ability to learn and execute all calibration methods and procedures. Performs routine equipment maintenance. Ability to learn and execute all fundamental test methods and procedures.
  • Provides accurate interpretation of customer test requests, evaluates and reports results.
  • Participates on intra- and inter-departmental teams to improve existing processes and/or develop new process and test methods.
  • Reviews work instructions, information systems, or other department procedures for improvements.
  • Participates in training opportunities.
  • Develops expertise in calibration methods and maintenance procedures. Requires specialized training.
  • Leads small teams to develop/improve testing procedures or operations.
  • Coordinates maintenance activities requiring outside support.
  • Must be able to comply with flexible work hours including daily and weekend overtime as required to complete test programs.
  • Must be proficient in welding, fabrication, and hydraulic systems.
  • Assures an adequate inventory of spare parts to provide quick replacement and minimize downtimes.
  • May, on occasion, be required to perform duties other than those specified in this description. Performs other related duties.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma/GED required. 
  • Technology degree or specialized training in calibration, maintenance, electronics and/or controls preferred.
  • Ability to work first shift which are 7:00 am – 3:30 pm (Please note these hours are subject to change!)
