The Truck Driver for Cooper Tire is responsible for the safe, legal, and efficient operation of any assigned trucking equipment (up to and including class 8 tractor-trailer combination with a GVW of 80,000 pounds) in picking-up, transporting, delivering, loading, and unloading of shipments.This person will provide a positive representation of the company by demonstrating safe, responsible driving practices.  Must maintain a safe driving record as required.

 Other job specific duties include:

  • Provide on-time and hassle-free pick-up and delivery service to customers, Cooper warehouses and productions facilities, vendors, and other shipping and receiving locations in compliance with DOT hours of service regulations.
  • Operate company vehicle in a safe manner by applying professional driving knowledge and skills in maneuvering vehicle at legal speeds using discretion when operating vehicle in tight areas, heavy traffic, or in-climate weather.
  • Perform required safety inspections and ensure the vehicle is in compliance with regulations necessary to pass Roadside Safety Inspection.  Perform pre-trip, enroute, and post trip inspections on equipment as required by the US Department of Transportation and Cooper Tire.  Ensure equipment defects are reported immediately.  Keep tractor interior clean and orderly.
  • Ensure all federal, state, and company shipment documents, including driver logs, bills of lading, product return forms, trip records, vehicle inspection reports, and other required documentation to move with the shipment are completed properly, available for inspection, and that appropriate paperwork accompanies each shipment when delivered.
  • Submit all paperwork and documents required by Federal D. O. T. and Cooper Tire & Rubber Company in a timely manner.
  • When required, unload and load trailer, either with or without assistance of dockworkers, with or without mechanical freight handling equipment.  Properly perform task to assure your own safety, the safety of any helpers, and to prevent damage to cargo.  Secure load when necessary to prevent shifting, falling, and damage to the freight as specified in Federal DOT Regulations §392.9 and §393.100 through §393.106.
  • Properly report all injuries or accidents involving driver or company equipment and report any delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic conditions, or other emergencies.
  • Provide manager with feedback on work processes and the competition.  Work to understand and support targeted growth plans.  Read internal newsletters to stay abreast of what’s happening within the company.
  • Fully support all technologies and processes, introduced by Cooper Tire & Rubber Company, that are intended to improve efficiencies and/or the customer experience.  Support would include adherence to training programs, guidelines, and processes associated with these systems.
  • Schedule start times, meals, breaks, and rest periods to meet dispatch requirements.
  • Must participate in random and post-accident DOT drug testing programs as required by the FMCSA

 

Job Requirements:

  • High school degree or GED
  • Must possess a valid class-A Commercial Drivers License with no more than two (2) moving violations in the past year and no more than four (4) moving violation in the past three years.
  • Minimum of three years of tractor-trailer driving experience
  • Must meet Federal requirement of being 21 years of age or older.
  • Must have knowledge of DOT regulations governing safe driving, hours of service, inspection and maintenance, knowledge of company policies and procedures for working with customers, preparing the required paperwork, dealing with fellow employees, and care of your assigned equipment.
  • Must be able to read and write and demonstrate the ability to manually complete required paperwork and reports.
  • Must have a desire to serve customers and support the Cooper team at the distribution center and plant.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen
  • Must be able to accurately read gauges and dials.
  • Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle’s cab using footholds and handholds.
