The buyer at Cooper Tire provides support in the procurement of service suppliers, perishable goods, overall supplier management and management of the Texarkana plant storeroom in a fast paced manufacturing environment.

 

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for executing the established policies and procedures governing the purchasing activities of indirect items for the respective plant
  • Responsible for supervising the plant store room
  • Responsible and accountable for achieving goals related to all indirect purchasing activities at the respective plant
  • Manages Storeroom and the activities in the storeroom with a focus on keeping the right level of inventory on hand to maximum availability of parts to aid in equipment uptime while minimizing costs
  • Monitors the daily storeroom PO’s and ensures parts are ordered as needed
  • Manages Reorder Points/Reorder Quantities (ROP/ROQ) to ensure optimum levels
  • Knowledge of the sourcing process working with RFP’s/RFQ’s/SOW’s.
  • Administers corporate pricing agreements at the plant level and ensures compliance to optimize the benefits of these agreements
  • Negotiates pricing and process orders with local suppliers on direct requisitions daily
  • Monitors P-card activity to ensure compliance
  • Monitors price increases through storeroom and negotiates as needed
  • Works with Maintenance, Engineering and Production to ensure internal customer satisfaction
  • Participates at the plant level in cost savings projects and aggregations with Corporate and the other plants to reduce indirect spend and improve maintenance reliability
  • Manages rebuild program
  • Maintains and/or develops working knowledge of computer applications
  • Demonstrate the ability to negotiate with vendors to optimize pricing and warranties of parts and services.
  • Demonstrate the ability to generate and implement cost savings ideas.
  • Focused on reducing the potential for stock outages and reducing overall inventory value through established corporate metrics.
  • Responsible for analyzing and reporting performance metrics for areas of responsibility
  • Must be willing to work in the place of Storeroom personnel if needed.
  • Willing to come in and/or available on weekends, off hours and holidays if needed.

 

Basic Qualifications:

•    Must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.

•    Must have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office, Excel and Word.

•    Must be well organized with attention to detail.

•    Able to work well under pressure.

•    Must be a self-starter and have the ability to learn quickly, accept and implement changes as needed to drive success.

    

Preferred Qualifications:

•    Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, engineering, business management or related field preferred

•    Previous management experience preferred

•    1 to 3 years of relevant work experience preferred

•    Experience in inventory control and store room management preferred

•    Strong SAP knowledge preferred

•    Strong analytical skill set preferred

•    Previous experience working with Engineering and Maintenance departments to improve equipment uptime and reliability preferred
