The Calibration Technician for Cooper Tire - Texarkana must be able to calibrate, trouble-shoot, and analyze any form of plant instrumentation or electronic equipment as specified by the Electrical Engineer/EET.  Technician will be expected to perform these duties on electronic, electrical, and/or hybrid/computer plant systems.  The Calibration Technician role provides a career path to an Electronics Technician role through designated training, testing, and acquired experience. 

 

The Calibration Technician will report to the Reliability Engineer.

 

Job Specific Duties, but not limited to:

  • Calibration and maintenance of equipment.
  • Establishing, with the Electrical Engineer/EET, a systematic calibration schedule for all plant instruments and to enforce this schedule.
  • Communication of work activity and status to the Electrical Engineer/EET on a regular basis.
  • Keeping accurate and orderly files of work performed as well as maintaining up-to-date history of all equipment under test.
  • Actively and continually evaluating process machine operations to identify and implement process improvement projects.
  • Performing any other duties as specified by the Electrical Engineer/EET.
  • Maintain proficiency through the analysis of manufacturer's literature, attending vendor's supplied training, and normal OJT.

 

It will also be the requirement of the Technician to demonstrate the knowledge and ability to use and configure the various Plant Process Control systems and equipment including – but not limited to:

  • Temperature - Thermocouple RTD, Thermistor, Infrared.
  • Pressure - I/P (V/P) transducers, P/I (P/V) transducers
  • Weight Control Systems – Load cells
  • Chart Recorder Displays, operator interface units and computer controlled calibration devices.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • The ability to use electronic equipment including the understanding of the function of each electronic equipment and basic computer skills.
  • Must use preventative maintenance procedures when assigned the care of electrical equipment.
  • The ability to work with various types of electronic, electrical, and hybrid/computer test equipment.
  • An understanding of basic Automatic Control system theory and operation.
  • An understanding of programmable logic controllers.
  • A basic understanding of computers and software.
  • A high degree of physical dexterity.
  • Must have high school diploma, GED OR the Workforce Center’s Career Readiness Certificate (CRC) with a minimum of Silver Certificate level (we will accept the CRC Silver Certificate or higher in lieu of a high school diploma or G.E.D.)
  • Must be able to pass a background check & drug screen
  • Completed a minimum of 2 years of applicable industrial technical experience.
  • Score adequately on the Technician Proficiency Test and pass the hands on test.

 

Schedule:

  • Schedule is a 2-2-3 schedule, as the plant works a 24/7 continuous operation schedule.  Standard schedule works every other weekend.  
  • New hires likely to be placed on night shift based on seniority.  Some areas may train on day shift and then the new hire is moved to a shift based upon seniority.  

 

Work Environment:

The job is within a heavy industrial environment and you may be required to work within various areas of the factory. Dependent upon the area you will work in, the environmental conditions can be hot, cold, dirty, greasy, wet, and noisy. The position requires you to work a continuous operation, which will include Saturdays and Sundays.  Must be able to work any shift assignment, including night shift. The position also requires you to work overtime as needed. Additionally, safety is our highest priority and safety procedures/guidelines must be adhered to at all times. This includes safety wear such as hearing protection, eye protection, protective clothing and steel-toed shoes. Punctuality and attendance are extremely important to the success of the operations in general as well as contributing to an overall positive team atmosphere.
