The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for the operations of the maintenance function in assigned area. This position coordinates and supervises the daily and planned maintenance of the assigned area. The position reports to the Plant Reliability Manager.


Other job specific duties include:

  • Directly supervises Maintenance Department’s hourly employees to insure the continuous and efficient operation of equipment during their shift
  • Consults with the Reliability Manager, Schedulers and Planners concerning work conditions, work problems, and action to be taken
  • Consults with production supervision concerning priorities of equipment involved in breakdown repair activity
  • Communicates the occurrence of all non-routine maintenance activities for follow-up by other shifts and by Area Project Engineers, Planners, Schedulers and Reliability Manager
  • Observes work-in-process to insure that work is performed as scheduled, that employees follow prescribed procedures, that equipment and personnel performances are up to standards, and that good housekeeping is maintained
  • Performs necessary troubleshooting on equipment failures during their shift
  • Assists the Department Managers, Department Coordinators, and the Central Stores Supervisor in procuring essential parts for plant machinery and equipment
  • Inspects recurring machine breakdown to identify required corrective action.  Requests the stocking and ordering of some parts and materials
  • Reviews daily time cards for accuracy and completeness.  Verifies account numbers and number of hours charged
  • Supervises the training of new employees.  Orients them to company policies, procedures and work practices
  • Renders first aid in case of an accident.  Prepares reports in the event of employee accidents.  Investigates the cause
  • Maintains accountability for company owned tools issued during their shift
  • Recommends disciplinary action or employee dismissal
  • Meets with union officials to settle grievances.  Writes a report of the meeting and forwards to the Reliability Manager
  • Recommends training plans and programs for all employees in areas of responsibility
  • Develops a proficiency with the SAP and utilizes its functionality in the management of areas of responsibility.  Also provides training for direct reports on the use of the system
  • Participates on ongoing efforts toward controlling, reducing and avoiding maintenance costs- specifically within the areas of responsibility
  • Holds safety meeting periodically according to current plant policies.  Instills an overall safety awareness mentality among the direct reports and develops meaningful, long-range safety improvement programs
  • Maintains high on ongoing personal improvement program targeted toward continuous improvement of supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Takes leadership roles in developing and facilitating Special Purpose Teams.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Prior work experience in Maintenance and Management
  • Must be able to pass a background check & drug screen
