The Electrician Apprentice must be knowledgeable in the installation and maintenance of all types of electrical equipment and must know the principle of action of electrical currents under the variety of conditions which it will be found in the electrical equipment used in a manufacturing environment. The ideal candidate will, with the assistance of a journeyman, be able to control the action of electrical current by the use of switches, condensers, transformers, rheostats and other electrical equipment and will have the ability to use the proper instruments and gauges necessary to troubleshoot electrical equipment.


Apprenticeship Eligibility Requirements


Job Specific Duties:

  • Know the safety policies of the plant.  They will be responsible for observance of all safety regulations within the plant and/or applicable to the trades.  Specifically but not exclusively Lockout/Tagout Program and Maintenance safety standards for the core craft.
  • Work with, listen and learn from a Journeyman in the core craft.
  • Know the basic principles of an electronics technician for the production equipment under the variety of conditions which will be found with the equipment used in a company manufacturing rubber goods.
  • With the assistance of a Journeyman, use the basic test equipment, proper instruments and gauges necessary to identify problems with in the equipment for their core craft.
  • Must have the basic understanding to be able to interpret printed instructions and drawings of the assembly and installation of equipment in their core craft.
  • Make basic checks with the assistance of a Journeyman in the core craft at the proper stages of completion and at the completion of the job.
  • Use basic preventative and predictive maintenance procedures with the assistance of a Journeyman in the core craft when assigned the care of equipment.
  • Repair while assisting a Journeyman must be consistent with the standards set up by engineering or any other authority assigned.
  • Interpret printed instructions and drawings of the assembly and installation of electrical equipment
  • Along with the Journeyman checking on their work at the proper stages of completion and at the completion of the job
  • Assist journeyman on preventative maintenance procedures on electrical equipment
  • Must maintain shop area, plant work areas and job sites in a neat and orderly condition at all times.  On completion of work in an area you must clean, pick up and remove any maintenance materials, supplies, scrap, etc. and dispose of properly.
  • Must maintain time cards, work records, time entries and work order closures in SAP, and/or any other work documentation as required. Use their designated area time clock to clock in and out every day.
  • Go from a basic to a skilled level within the core craft throughout the duration of the apprentice program
  • Pass a hands on test within their core craft during Phase Two of the Apprenticeship program.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED, CRC Silver Level, etc.)
  • Two years of training in the core craft from a technical school or 2 years of applicable hands on experience.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Be physically able to perform all aspects of the job.
  • Must be able to pass a background check & drug screen
  • Must pass an aptitude test or tests administered by the Company.
  • Must meet the minimum score needed to be accepted into the Apprentice Program
  • If accepted into the program the candidate must take an evaluation test to determine what training is needed in the core craft and/or secondary craft.
  • The course schedule will be determined by the test evaluation.


Must demonstrate and show proficiency in the following areas throughout the Apprentice program:

  • A desire to learn and achieve.
  • The ability to work with various types of electrical components and equipment.
  • A high degree of physical dexterity.
