The Electronics Technician (SRA) Apprentice must be able, with the assistance of a journeyman, to trouble-shoot, analyze, repair, calibrate, modify, program, and install any form of plant instrumentation or electronic equipment as specified by the staff Engineer. Candidate will be expected to perform these duties on electronic, electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, or hybrid plant systems.


Apprenticeship Eligibility Requirements


Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED, CRC Silver Level, etc.)
  • Two years of training in a core craft from a technical school or 2 years hands on experience.
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • Must be physically able to perform all aspects of the job.
  • Must be able to pass a background check & drug screen
  • Must pass an aptitude test within the core craft.
  • Must meet the minimum score needed to be accepted into the Apprentice Program
  • If accepted into the program the candidate must take an evaluation test to determine what training is needed in the core craft and secondary craft.
  • The course schedule will be determined by the test evaluation.


Job Specific Duties:

  • Know the safety policies of the plant.  They will be responsible for observance of all safety regulations within the plant and/or applicable to the trades.  Specifically but not exclusively Lockout/Tagout Program and Maintenance safety standards for the core craft.
  • Will work with, listen and learn from a Journeyman in the core craft.
  • Use the basic principles of an electronics technician for the production equipment under the variety of conditions which will be found with the equipment used in a company manufacturing rubber goods.
  • With the assistance of a Journeyman will use the basic test equipment, proper instruments and gauges necessary to identify problems with in the equipment for their core craft.
  • Must make basic checks with the assistance of a Journeyman in the core craft at the proper stages of completion and at the completion of the job.
  • Use basic preventative and predictive maintenance procedures with the assistance of a Journeyman in the core craft when assigned the care of equipment.
  • Repairs while assisting a Journeyman must be consistent with the standards set up by engineering or any other authority assigned to direct him.
  • Maintain shop area, plant work areas and job sites in a neat and orderly condition at all times.  On completion of work in an area clean, pick up and remove any maintenance materials, supplies, scrap, etc. and dispose of properly.
  • Maintain time cards, work records, time entries and work order closures in SAP, and/or any other work documentation as required. Use their designated area time clock to clock in and out every day.
  • Go from a basic to a skilled level within the core craft throughout the duration of the apprentice program
  • Candidate must pass a hands on test within their core craft during Phase Two of the Apprenticeship program.


Must demonstrate and show proficiency in the following areas throughout the Apprentice program:

  • A desire to learn and achieve.
  • The ability to interpret electronic schematics, both for the vacuum tube and solid state circuits, including the understanding of the function of each electronic component.
  • The ability to work with various types of electronic, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, mechanical, and hybrid test equipment.
  • An understanding of basic Automatic Control system theory and operation. An understanding of programmable logic controller programming.
  • A high degree of physical dexterity.
