The Tire Engineer for Cooper Tire is responsible for conducting evaluations related to new or refined production processes and reporting results. This position is also responsible for ensuring that tire building specifications will produce tires that meet all standards established by Divisional Technical and Product Assurance, consistent with quality and profitability objectives.


Job Specific Duties: 

  • Responsible for developing new tire lines, including calculating all necessary component parameters, issuing projects, analyzing check tires, and issuing building specifications when the tire is ready for production.
  • Leads or participates in Process Improvement or Special Purpose Teams, as required.
  • Analyzes wheel test data for conformance to standards, and initiates construction changes for performance improvement, as required.
  • Maintains awareness of cured tire condition levels, conducts cause-effect analysis and determines solutions to conditions.  Uses problem solving skills, and initiates specification revisions for the control of cured tire conditions as appropriate.
  • Reviews cut tire analysis of production surveillance tires regularly, and adjusts component specifications if necessary.
  • Issues special projects requested by Divisional Technical to evaluate new construction features.
  • Responsible for disposition of off-specification materials.
  • Serves as technical advisor to all Production and Product Assurance personnel.
  • Maintains contact with Divisional Tire Engineers to remain current with product trends.
  • Originates temporary specification changes which affect quality of tires.  Continually reviews quality level of tires and makes permanent changes whenever factory or field performance of tire can be improved.
  • Reviews records of projects, tire analysis, tire specifications, and wheel tests.
  • Reviews tire adjustment figures and inspects tires which have been returned for adjustment to remain current with field performance of tires.
  • Aids in the training of beginning Technicians or Engineers.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
  • 1-3 years relevant work experience, co-op & intern experience will be considered


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Mechanical Engineering 
  • Previous tire engineering experience
