The Uniformity Engineer will achieve and maintain the shop KOIs (key operating indicators), including but not limited to Uniformity scrap, Uniformity RFT (right the first time), Grind Rate, Blem Rate objectives, while continuously reducing uniformity averages and standard deviation.


Job Specific Duties:

  • Daily monitoring of above objectives, uniformity means and standard deviations.
  • Development of necessary plant reporting (KOIs) by shop and overall on daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Lead and mentor Uniformity improvement activities for Uniformity and Quality Technicians.
  • Identify daily SPEC issues based on above uniformity parameters.  Maintain a history of SPEC averages and machine settings to reduce (if possible) poor start-up results.
  • Working with processing engineering to improve uniformity without negatively impacting other quality parameters (e.g.  Visual Conditions, CTAs).  Work closely with Process and Quality techs to understand the effects related to both Uniformity moves on visual conditions and visual condition process changes on Uniformity.
  • Work with other shops to trouble-shoot daily uniformity process issues.
  • Identify process issues on the tire assembly machines through UNIFORMITY KNOWNS; working hands-on to address those issues and analyzing results for statistical improvements.
  • Identifying new UNIFORMITY KNOWNS in the process, while respecting the current UNIFORMITY KNOWNS.
  • Perform Uniformity Studies to both COMPENSATE uniformity means and identify sources of process issues, and dispersion.
  • Use of before cure tools to troubleshoot and identify process issues (e.g. Nylon overwrap tension, tread length capabilities, IQS, etc.).
  • Support and possibly lead uniformity related projects when required.
  • Knowledge and hands-on experience with tire building machinery, including, strong understanding of individual machine differences; (PLC experience is a plus); machine set-up experience. 
  • Understanding and application of machine alignment to reduce uniformity.
  • Knowledge of upstream and downstream processes that may impact uniformity.
  • Develop and provide uniformity training for all plant functions (e.g. Operator training by shop explaining KNOWNS from those processes). 
  • A strong understanding of statistical analysis methods, vector and harmonic analysis is required.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • 3 to 5 years related (i.e. manufacturing, etc.) experience and/or training
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
